This course focuses on the job of a lifeguard in a swimming pool environment. Learn to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around the water. Teaches professionalism, first aid, rescue skills, and CPR. Includes Lifeguarding Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED. Participants MUST know how to swim Front Crawl with rhythmic breathing and Breaststroke. Successful participation in all sessions required! Classes will emphasize victim recognition, surveillance, equipment-based rescues, and includes for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED.
Prerequisites: participant must be 15 years of age; able to swim continuously for 300 yards; able to tread water for two minutes using legs only; able to retrieve a 10-lb brick from 7 feet of water and return it to the surface.
This approximately 30-hour course helps you teach skills that may save a life, gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional, earn money or join a volunteer team while you help people learn valuable skills. In addition, you will learn organizational and presentation skills that will help you in any career and make a difference in people’s lives. Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them to swim, help children and adults refine their strokes, or teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16. Fundamentals of Instructor Training Course (FIT). Demonstrate swimming skills consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4, by swimming the following strokes: Front Crawl - 25 yards; Back Crawl - 25 yards; Breaststroke - 25 yards; Elementary backstroke - 25 yards; Sidestroke - 25 yards; Butterfly - 15 yards; maintain position on back for one minute in deep water (floating or sculling); tread water for one minute.
This course is designed to help participants achieve recertification in Lifeguard Training without having to take the full content course. This review course includes First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Prerequisites: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/ CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification. Able to swim continuously for 300 yards; able to tread water for two minutes using legs only. Must be able to attend the full class.
