Chuck Huffer was re-elected to his 4th term on the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in November 2024.
Born in New York State, Chuck grew up and attended school in Kettering, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. The oldest of four siblings, Chuck earned his Bachelor's Degree from the College of Wooster (Ohio) and his Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from Ohio State University.
Chuck married his college sweetheart, Gwen, in 1972. A 1975 graduate of the OSU College of Medicine, Gwen was a Board-certified pediatrician, completing her training at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Gwen passed away in 2017.
Chuck and Gwen moved from Ohio to San Diego, CA in 1976 where Gwen was stationed at NAS Miramar as a General Medical Officer for the US Navy. In 1980, after Gwen completed her military service and pediatric residency, Chuck and Gwen moved to Thousand Oaks, their home ever since.
Their two children grew up and attended public schools in Thousand Oaks: Rick, who lives in the Seattle area and works for a leading bank, is married and has 1 child; and Robin, who lives in Oahu with her husband and 2 children, and is a pediatrician just like her Mom.
Chuck is a retired Financial Planner, having gotten his Professional Certification from UCLA and working for several small firms in Ventura County. Chuck has been an active member of the Thousand Oaks community, volunteering for a number of organizations both before and after retirement including with AYSO youth soccer, as a coach, referee and Board member for more than 30 years, Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks, as a member for almost 10 years and President in 2018, and the Conejo Senior Volunteer Program tax program for 12 years.
Chuck was first elected to the CRPD Board of Directors in 2012, and re-elected in 2016, 2020 and 2024. He has served three times as Board Chair. Chuck's involvement with the Park District began well before his election, serving on both the Conejo Creek Community Advisory group and the Lang Ranch Community Advisory group; and, as AYSO Commissioner at the time, organizing the sports group's parents to successfully push for voter approval of CRPD's Districtwide Assessment District.
Since his election, notable achievements by the CRPD Board have included opening Del Prado Playfield in 2013; dedication of the re-named Sapwi Trails Community Park in 2018; dedication of the Healing Garden in Conejo Creek North in 2019; and strengthening of the District's financial and personnel policies.
