TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & GOALS: Pre-Kindergarten

Our focus in this class is still on having fun and gaining a positive self-concept.  Many of our cognitive activities are hands on, so you may wonder how we are preparing your child for kindergarten.  We will be introducing/ reinforcing the alphabet.  We will be making an alphabet book that your child will bring home at the end of the year.  We will practice writing our names the kindergarten way – using lower case letters.  We cut, we draw, we write stories, we play games, we listen to stories, we work on how many and other math concepts.   Your child may come home on some days without any paper or artwork, but that doesnt mean that he/ she wasnt busy learning that day!  Please keep in mind that children learn at their own pace.  This is not kindergarten, it is PRE-kindergarten.  Early Childhood Education should include big doses of fun and magic.  Our goal is to help your child prepare to be a confident, successful kindergarten student.  Remember that we cannot do this job on our own.  Parents are the true Early Childhood Educators.

ROUTINE & POLICY
School Hours:
T/Th Preschool, 9-11:30am
M/W/F Pre-Kindergarten, 9am-12pm
T/W/Th Preschool, 12:30-2:30pm

Please wait outside until the teacher opens the door at the beginning of class and also at the end of class.  The classroom door opens to the entire park and waiting until it opens helps to ensure the safety of our students during pick up and drop off.
Please be on time to drop off and pick up your child.  If you are late to pick up your child after school, that child will be brought to the parks' main office until you arrive.  There will be no class on most Conejo Unified School District Holidays.  Reminders will be put in the monthly newsletters regarding upcoming holidays.

Sign In and Pick Up Authorization:
Parents must sign children in on the sign-in sheet each day.  It will be located right inside the door on the counter.  Please make sure to leave the phone number of where you can be reached each day.  Help your child find their cubby and nametag and always say goodbye.
A CHILD MAY NOT BE PICKED UP BY ANYONE THAT IS NOT LISTED ON YOUR EMERGENCY FORM OR THAT YOU HAVE NOT NOTIFIED US AHEAD OF TIME.
Please take the time to write down grandparents and neighbors that might help you out in case of emergencies or traffic jams.  Persons must show ID.

Clothes:
Please send your child to school in comfortable, OLD clothing.  Many children do not like to wear smocks and will not participate in a fun project because it is uncomfortable for them.  This is very sad.  Sometimes children are afraid they will be in trouble if they get paint on their clothes.  WE WILL GET MESSY, EVEN OUR SHOES.  DO NOT WEAR GOOD, EXPENSIVE CLOTHES TO SCHOOL!

Children need to wear closed toe shoes like sneakers to school.  No flip flops, sandals or slippers; we climb and run at the park.  Please label items like sweaters, lunchboxes, umbrellas and hats.  Please send a change of clothes that can be left at school.  Store them in a zip-lock bag with the name of the child and the class written on the baggie; and don't forget socks!  Sometimes water play makes a child uncomfortable (wet sleeves) or someone may have an accident.  We will be prepared to help them out if they have a change of clothes at school.

Snacks:
Your child needs to bring a snack each day.  Please send a small drink and one or two SMALL items.  Please do not send an entire lunch.  Please send items that do not need refrigeration or send an ice pack in the lunch bag to keep items cool.  No candy, please!

Moments For Your Child To Shine!
Share Bag:
Each child will have a turn to take our share bag home and choose something to bring back to school to "share" or show the class during circle time.  Please only bring share items when it is your child's day for the share bag.  This makes it a special day for that student.  When everyone shares on the same day items get lost or misplaced.

Class Book:
We will make a class photo book.  Each child will have a chance to take the book home and show the family all of the wonderful friends that we have at school.  The children love to tell you about each person and they especially love their own page.  Please return the book on the next school day so another child can have a turn, it is hard to wait!!

Birthdays:
Your child may bring a small treat to share with the class for birthdays.  The best part of this is the passing out and sharing!  The treat can be as simple as a package of cookies; it is easy for the child to handle, easy on the parents and easy on clean up.  Please keep it small and simple, thank you!  Also please check with a teacher ahead of time so that we don't end up with too many birthday treats on the same day.

Illness:
Please keep your child home if he/ she has:
1.
A fever within the previous 24 hours
2.
  Has a green nasal discharge
3.
  Has a constant cough
4.
  Has diarrhea/ vomiting
5.
Has a rash or bumps of unknown origin

If your child appears ill or is unable to stay awake, we will contact you or someone on your emergency list to pick up your child from school.
If your child gets a communicable disease, such as chicken pox or pink eye please let us know as soon as possible so that we can alert other parents to watch for symptoms in their own child.
Please notify the teachers of any allergies your child may have. Space is provided on the emergency form of this information.  If your child will not be attending school due to illness please call the center at (805)381-2791
