NEXT FIRESIDE CONCERT...
November 13th, 2015
DANA & SALLY CHARETTE: Dana and Sally Charette met backstage at a theater in 1979 and have been entertaining each other ever since. They've both served on the Songmakers Board of Directors for most of a decade. They host the Month of Sundays song circle at their community clubhouse in Acton and they organize four annual Songmakers campouts. Dana's musical influences include Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tom Paxton, John Prine, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez and the Beatles--which makes for a very mixed bag bouncing around in his head. Thanks to his theater background, Dana brings a lively spirit to his performances of both ballads and comedic songs. Sally grew up trawling her parents' jazz albums and her older brothers' sixties rock and folk rock collections. She fell for Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Jim Croce, Carly Simon, Paul Simon and (gasp!) even embraced disco in high school. She loves music from across the spectrum but particularly thrills to jazzy songs from the 1920s to the 2010s! She is also a member of the Harmonistas harmony group and have performed at Fireside. Sally has a natural and talent and charm that wins over audiences whenever she performs.
BRAD COLERICK: Billboard Magazine called Brad Colerick "one of a baker's dozen of acts to watch in the folk community around the world." He moved from his native Nebraska to Los Angeles in 1986 and built a successful career making music for commercials. He's had the pleasure of working with a long list of legendary artists including BB King, Shawn Colvin, Buddy Guy, Suzy Bogguss and the late Johnny Cash. Colerick's CDs have landed in the Top 5 of both the Folk DJ and Euro-Americana charts and has played hallowed stages across the country from Freight & Salvage and McCabes in the west to The Bluebird and Birchmere back east. Welcome back Brad.
HONEYSUCKLE POSSUMES: The Honeysuckle Possums are a high-energy, all-woman band playing original old-time and bluegrass-style music. The three lead vocalists: Nicola Gordon , Susan Marie Reeves, and Rebecca Troon are all accomplished songwriters and play guitar, banjo, fiddle, ukulele, and strum stick… collectively. Lisa Macker plays stand-up bass and mandolin, adding spice to the harmonies. Ruth Alpert is the band’s dancing percussionist, an Appalachian Flat-Foot style dancer who seems to float as she makes it easy for the crowd to dance and clap along. They’ve performed in California at the Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Goleta, and at the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival to rave reviews. The Possums’ intention is “to create and share joy through music”. Their happiness onstage is irresistible, and their live performances sail on a strong current of love and friendship. “Possum” audience members often comment on how happy they feel after the show.
"The best entertainment bargain in the Conejo Valley just might be the Fireside Concert series at the Borchard Community Center in Newbury Park presented by Bob and Penny Kroll and sponsored by the Conejo Recreation and Park District. (Think open mike night in the Greenwich Village coffee houses of the 1960s.)"
