Serving the Conejo Valley Since 1963

The Conejo Recreation and Park District covers 66 square miles and serves a population of more than 140,000 people in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and the Ventura County portion of Westlake Village.  The district works closely with other public agencies such as the City of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley Unified School District, as well as a variety of organizations and businesses to provide comprehensive park, recreation, and leisure services.

Parks Make Life Better! The Recreation Division conducts more than 3,000 organized recreation and leisure programs each year.  The Parks Division maintains 29 neighborhood parks, six sports playfields, four community parks, and one district-wide park as formal facilities with a variety of recreation amenities, including tot-lots, lighted sports fields, picnic areas, and community centers.  Additionally, the Parks and Planning Division, through the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), maintains approximately 15,000 acres of open space and an 140-mile multi-use trail system including a disabled accessible trail segment on Oak Creek Canyon.

The Conejo Recreation and Park District was formed in January 1963.  The formation of the District was approved by voters by an 80 percent margin.  It was the voters' choice to establish an independent governmental entity to provide their parks, leisure, and recreational needs.

Special districts are sanctioned under California law for the performance of local governmental functions within specified boundaries.  They are separate, local agencies, created by local petition or through popular election.  Governed by elected boards of directors, they are directly accountable to their constituents.
